About Me
Sahar Jahani is a first generation Iranian-American writer/director raised in Los Angeles. She earned a BA in Film & Media Studies and Literary Journalism from UC Irvine and received an MFA in Film and Television Screenwriting at Stephens College. Sahar worked in scripted development at YouTube Originals before transitioning to the writers room on the Emmy & Golden Globe nominated Hulu/A24 series RAMY, where she wrote her first episode of television, and was awarded a Peabody along with the rest of the writers room.
In 2018, she was selected for the Warner Brothers Television Writing Workshop, on the comedy side. Her original pilot, UNCOVERED, was selected for the 2019 MACRO Episodic Lab Grant, in development with 20th Television and Executive Producer Eva Longoria. Since then, Sahar has written on several shows including MTV’s UNDRESSED, 13 REASONS WHY, THE BOLD TYPE, and ECHOES, a mystery limited series for Netflix. She most recently was a consulting producer on Hulu’s Life & Beth and has developed series for HBO Max, Netflix and Amazon.
On the film side, Sahar was selected to participate in the 2018 Film Independent Project Involve Program where she wrote and directed JUST ONE NIGHT, an award-winning short film that premiered at the LA Film Festival and has gone on to several other festivals worldwide. Since then, Sahar has adapted AYESHA AT LAST for Pascal Pictures and the YOU’VE GOT MAIL inspired HANA KHAN CARRIES ON for Amazon Studios and Executive Producer Mindy Kaling.
In addition to all of her film and TV work, Sahar’s writing has been featured in The New York Times, Modern Love column and she is currently writing her first YA novel for Farrar Straus Giroux Books for Young Readers / Macmillan publishing.
